A movie meme posted on a few of my LJ friends' pages had the idea of saying if you'd seen any of the 178 (?!) movies listed, and seeing over 70 suggests you had no life. However the list was generally derided on content, so I figured a *better* movie list would be in order.

So, using their categories as a benchmark, I've chosen the top ten (or thereabouts, due to multi-categorisation) movies on all 19 categories on the IMDB; if you've seen more than, shall we say half (85) then you are officially a movie buff!

If you fancy doing this yourself, feel free, I'm just doing this to see if I can match the *28* that I saw on the previous list!

It took me an hour and a half to design this list, in NeoOfficeJ, due to it going slowly, and due to the fact that most of the films have so much cross-categorisation that, for example, I had to use the 50th best rated Drama film to make a top 10 of Drama (cos I already had 40 of them earlier in the list). Mind you it was still rated 8.4 so it's still a top-notch film. Whatever it was.

Out of the list, my own personal favourites that I've seen are Casablanca, Bridge on the River Kwai, Se7en, and the incredibly depressing Requiem for a Dream.

I'll loan it to you when you get here. It's a good book, kind of dark, always creeps me out a little, but it's a good book.

It's an exceptionally fine film. Dark, violent, but they are only the means to an end - there's nothing gratuitous about it, and it's an interesting philosophical dilemma - by conditioning someone into good behaviour, can you make them truly good?

Yes, you need to read "A Handmaids Tale" and "American Gods" because both of them rock.
